Smoke Control Systems

The term Smoke Control relates to designing and installing systems that extract smoke from a building in the event of a fire, protecting people, property and assets while making access easier for fire fighters to fight fires.

Newton Electrical Systems Limited have installed a number of Smoke Control Systems in commercial premises and specifically towards student and residential accommodations.

These systems are designed and specified by our experienced engineers as small, medium and large accommodations require different levels of protection to ensure your building is safe and compliant. Controls used are British made by SCS Group who can tailor make your design and Newton Electrical Systems are an approved installer of SCS Group.

Smoke Control Systems are an important part of the fire defence strategy. With the ever-increasing amount of apartment blocks over 3 floors, smoke control systems are playing a major role in the fire protection for the occupants. When a fire breaks out in such properties, the major cause of fatalities is not caused by the fire itself, but the smoke.

Our Systems are specially designed to meet in accordance of the following standards

  • Approved Document B (Fire Safety) Volume 2; Buildings other than dwelling Houses
  • BS 9991: 2015 – Fire safety in the design, management and use of residential buildings
  • BS 9999: 2017– Code of practice for fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings
  • BS EN 12101-6: 2005 – Specification for Pressure Differential Systems
  • BS EN 12101-3: 2015 – Specification for Powered Smoke and Heat Exhaust Systems
  • Smoke Control Association Guide: 2020 – Guidance on Smoke Control to Common Escape routes in Apartment Buildings (Flats and Maisonettes)
